chromosome

Tightly packed bundles of DNA contained in almost all cells in the body, responsible for the determination and transmission of hereditary characteristics. There are normally 46 chromosomes in each cell in humans.

chromosome abnormality

Abnormality in the number of chromosomes or location and structure of DNA on the chromosome.

cleft lip and palate

A split or opening in the lip or palate or both.

A blue or purple color usually around the mouth or skin that happens when someone's blood doesn't have enough oxygen.

cytokines

A class of substances that are produced by cells of the immune system and affect the immune response.

DNA

The molecules inside cells that carry genetic information and pass it from one generation to the next.

echocardiography

An ultrasound of the heart that uses sound waves to look at the structures of the heart and check how well they are working.
