The chromosomal makeup of an individual including the number of chromosomes and any abnormalties in them.

lesion

An area of abnormal tissue change.

leukemia

Cancer of the developing blood cells inthe bone marrow. Leukemia leads to rampant overproduction of white cells.

lymph nodes

A collection of tissues that act as a filter. Lymph nodes store special cells that can trap cancer cells or bacteria that are traveling through the body. Lymph nodes are found in the neck, armpits, groin and many other areas through the body.

lymphocytes

A type of white blood cell that produces antibodies and other substances that help to fight infections and diseases.

lysosome

A sac-like compartment inside of a cell that contains proteins that can break down other cellular components that need to be destroyed.

malignant

A tumor that is severe or resistant to treatment. When referring to an abnormal growth, it usually means that it has a tendency to spread.
