X linked inheritance

An inheritance pattern passed from parents to a child in which the X sex chromosome is changed or mutated thus causing a disease or disorder. Girls inherit two X chromosomes, one from mother and one from father. Boys inherit one X chromosome from mother and a Y chromosome from father. When the X chromosome is changed, boys are affected more seriously with the disease, but girls have a normal working X chromosome to counterbalance the other mutated one, so they can appear normal or less severely affected. Thus, girls carry the mutated gene and can pass it on to their sons.
