A key component of our mission is facilitating effective communication among parents, physicians and medical experts. In this section you'll find:
Tools for Parents and Families to assist parents and families in managing their child's medical journey.
Details about our programs dedicated to teaching doctors how to deal more effectively with children and families facing rare diseases.
For the kids we've included Madison's book, Kid to Kid, in which Madison speaks to other kids about the ordeals of medical treatment.
Madisons Foundation is dedicated to building a new paradigm, one that features physicians communicating effectively with parents of children afflicted with rare diseases. Collaborating with the Department of Pediatrics at UCLA’s School of Medicine, the foundation supports educational programs giving medical students and pediatric residents invaluable experience in diagnosing and managing rare diseases – focusing on the communication skills needed to provide compassionate, holistic, and supportive care to families in need.
So far, these educational programs have included a classroom of medical professionals taught by the patient , the development of a seminar on How to Give Bad News to Parents , and a summer 2003 Elective Class at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
